Expertise

During my career I have been working mostly on the Physics of Metallic Systems. Since I met Prof. Balazs Gyorffy (Bristol, UK) and Dr. G.Malcolm Stocks (ORNL, TN, USA) , I have been working in problems which can be studied by means of the Multiple Scattering techniques, within the Density Functional theoretical framework. Within the international KKR-CPA community, that includes many university departments and laboratories, initially my role has been that of generalising most of the existing theories and computer codes to the fully relativistic case, as, for instance, the case of the fully relativistic photoemission theory (B.Ginatempo, P.J. Durham and B.L. Györffy, J.Phys.: Condensed Matter, 1, 6483 (1989)). Later , I got involved in the determination of spectral properties and Fermi surfaces of metallic systems, in the phase equilibria of metallic alloys and in the determination of response functions. Very recently, I am trying to understand the properties of systems close to the magnetic instability.

Regarding my specific technical expertise, during my career I have dealt with large (or huge) computer codes, as required by the first principle theories I have worked on. This has been accomplished with a satisfactory degree of success (Gordon Bell Prize 1990 for prize/performance).
